Layritz - The Waiting is Over
| After years of waiting and a few false starts, the construction of a new soccer field at Layritz Park for Prospect Lake Soccer Club is about to start. Excavation of the site is scheduled to start in early June, weather permitting. Our goal is to have the field ready for the start of the 2007/2008 soccer season.
What kind of soccer field? We are building an artificial turf field which qualifies for a FIFA 2 Star rating. We meet this stringent FIFA standard by including a Brock pad for improved shock resistance, and 40mm turf from Domo. The lined field will be 65m x 100m. Why an artificial turf field? A turf field provides a playing surface that can be used in almost any kind of weather, all year long. The past winter shows how vulnerable natural fields are to a little rain. Turf fields require no cutting, fertilizing, watering, or lining. They do require the occasional grooming to ensure the infill remains uniformly distributed. Turf fields are also safer. With the inclusion of a Brock pad, the turf field closely simulates the shock resistance of a maintained natural field. There are no depressions or ankle-twisting holes that tend to appear in natural fields near the end of the playing season. |

If you have any of the following skills and can donate some time, you can help make this project a success. If we get enough volunteers and donations, we may be able to add features cut from the original plan as a cost saving measure. We need pipe layers for drainage work in June, carpenters for concrete forming in July, and concrete finishers in July. Other skills will be listed here as required. If you can help, please email us at layritz@plsc.org. |
